Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 14, 2022, at Sevier Funeral Home Chapel, Chickasha, OK. Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Zelma Louise Buser, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the age of 96. She was born October 15, 1925, in Ingamar, Mississippi to George Lewis and Mary Myrtle (Tallant) Hellums.

Zelma grew up in Calhoun County Mississippi. She lost her mother at the age of 9, becoming a mother to her younger 2 siblings, then at the age of 10, she lost her father. She moved in with her aunt in Grenada, MS, where she would later meet her future husband, Guy Buser, Jr., who was visiting friends at her aunt's boarding house. They later married in Austin, TX where he was stationed in the military on February 12, 1944. Then in 1945, they moved to the farm east of Chickasha where she lived for the next 76 years until she passed. Zelma and Guy had 3 sons who they lovingly raised on the family farm.

Zelma was an active member of First Christian Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of DWF. She was a big supporter of 4H. She helped her three boys, Gary, Robert, and Jack, with their 4H projects and she shared her excellent seamstress skills mentoring young ladies with their sewing projects. She participated in the Grady County Extension Homemakers Group for many years and severed as a Grady County Election Board employee. Zelma and husband Guy were active members in the Oklahoma Farm Bureau and were elected in 1957 as the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Family of the Year. In later years, they took several trips to observe farm operations nationwide from Hawaii to Florida.

She was a farmer's wife of the highest caliber feeding every soul that worked on the farm and helped with any role that was needed to keep the daily operations going. Zelma had the hardest job on the farm. She kept an immaculate home, cooked 3 meals a day, delivered sandwiches to the field during harvest, drove wheat trucks to town, fed the livestock, and harvested and canned the vegetables from the family garden. Zelma was an avid gardener growing African violets, irises, and roses as some of her favorites. Another favorite pastime was hosting her family for many meals that nourished their bellies and hearts.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George Lewis and Mary Myrtle (Tallant) Hellums; husband, Guy Buser, Jr.; son, Jack Buser.

Zelma is survived by her sons, Gary Buser, and wife, Gloria of Owasso, OK, Robert Buser and wife, Jacquie Buser of Chickasha, OK; grandchildren: Michael Buser and wife, Susie, Mandie Alexander and husband, Stephen, Cody Lynn Bennight and partner, Ryan Schofield, Alicia Schwabe and husband, Grant, and Kimberly Buser; 8 great-grandchildren, sister, Inez Horton of Mississippi; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as two very special friends, Betty Ballard, and Linda McClung.
