Zelma Jo Beauchamp (Z)
Zelma Jo Beauchamp, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on December 28, 1938, in Foster, Oklahoma, to Allen Henry Wilson and Lorene Parker Wilson.
On June 24, 1957, she married the love of her life, Sam Beauchamp. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and love.
A devoted Baptist, Zelma loved the Lord and faithfully trusted Him throughout her life. Her family finds peace in knowing that the faith she held so closely has now become sight.
Zelma dedicated her career to caring for others. She began her nursing career at Grady Memorial Hospital before continuing her work with the Grady County Health Department, where she faithfully served for 21 years until her retirement. Her compassion, work ethic, and servant’s heart touched countless lives throughout her career.
If there was one thing everyone knew about Zelma, it was that she loved her family beyond measure. She was “Mom” first, “Gran” and “Nana” to some, and Z to others. Nothing softened Zelma’s heart quite like her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her beloved fur babies. She was the one everyone called when they had a question, needed advice (whether it was life or medical), or just wanted the right answer. If you needed to know something, you called Z.
She loved cheering on her family in every sport imaginable and never missed an opportunity to be in the stands. Whether it was basketball, softball, volleyball, baseball, motocross, or any other event, she was there, proudly supporting the people she loved. She was also a devoted Oklahoma City Thunder fan and rarely missed watching a game.
Zelma loved life and was always ready for her next adventure with friends. She enjoyed getting out, going places, and making memories, especially her famous “Walmart trips.” If you know, you know. One of the hardest things for her was slowing down, because she loved staying busy and was always on the go.
She was one of the toughest people you’ll ever meet. Her strength carried her through life’s challenges, and she remained strong right up until the very end. She was independent, determined, and never afraid to tell you exactly what she thought. Those who knew her best understood that she could be especially tough on the people she loved most, but beneath that strong exterior was a woman who loved deeply in her own way. Her feisty spirit, quick wit, and unwavering determination made her uniquely herself and gave those who loved her countless stories to laugh about and cherish forever.
She is survived by her son, Brad Beauchamp of Chickasha; daughter Bari Firestone and husband Wes of Chickasha; granddaughter Trina Baumgartner and husband Brady of Tuttle; granddaughter Haley Beauchamp of Fayetteville, North Carolina; grandson Weston Firestone of Chickasha; granddaughter Brook Firestone of Chickasha; great-grandchildren Bralynn Baumgartner and Turner Baumgartner of Tuttle; sister Phyllis DeWoody and husband Calvin of Lindsay; brothers Allen Wilson and wife Leora and Monty Wilson of Lindsay; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Beauchamp; her son, Bret Beauchamp; her parents, Allen Henry Wilson and Lorene Parker Wilson; and her sisters, Julia Whitefield and Sue Horner.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that the faith she held throughout her life has become sight. She is finally home with her Savior and reunited with those who went before her. Her legacy of love, strength, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family will live on in each of us. The phone may not ring to ask Z a question anymore, but her wisdom, her strength, and the love she poured into her family will continue to guide us for generations.
