Wilma D. Cox was born March 9, 1925 in Chickasha, OK to Luther C. and Ruby E. (Elston) Cox. She died Thursday, February 11, 2016 in Chickasha at the age of 90.
She graduated from Ninnekah High School in 1943 and continued her education at Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, graduating in 1947. She received her Masters of Education from the University of Oklahoma.
Wilma taught Junior High English and Speech for several years for the Chickasha Public School system prior to her appointment as Curriculum Coordinator and Director of Special Education. She retired from the Chickasha School system in 1986.
Wilma was very active in the community, serving as President of the Retired Teachers Association, President and board member of the Grady County Historical Society as well as a member of the Saint Luke's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed traveling across the U.S., Canada and Europe and loved to socialize with her friends. Wilma was a special person who always shared a warm smile and a quick wit with everyone she met.
She was a special mentor to many of her Nieces and Nephews, providing insight and direction for their careers and life.
She is preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Boyd, Bill, Ben and Elmer Cox; and a sister, Carmen Cox.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
