Chickasha

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the First Baptist Church Pocasset, Pocasset, OK.

Ward "Sandy" Hill was born on April 9, 1945 to Jim and Arleen Austin on Altus Air Force Base in Altus, Oklahoma. He was later adopted by his grandparents Tom and Othella Hill who raised him and his two brothers Tom, Jr. and David on their 1300 acre ranch in Bridge Creek. Sandy passed away on July 11, 2021 in Chickasha, OK after a 77 day battle with Glioblastoma.

Sandy was a member of the Blanchard Graduating Class of 1964. He married Shelley Lair on June 12, 1965. Sandy and Shelley raised their two sons on their family farm east of Chickasha. Sandy retired in 2014 from a lifetime in the oil field with 28 years of service to BTI (Superior Energy). Prior to his years with BTI, Sandy worked as a roughneck, driller, tool pusher and oilfield mechanic for Viersen and Cochran and Unit Drilling before going to work for Aztec which would become BTI during his employment.

Sandy also wore various other hats during his working years building houses for Purdue Homes, driving a truck for Henry Hoffman, hauling cattle for Estel Standridge Farms and Dub Norvel Farms, and driving a truck and being a mechanic for Slim's Forklift. Sandy was also very proud to have worked for Eubank Ranch in the beginning days of their operation.  During the Vietnam War, Sandy hauled bombs from McAlester, OK to bases from Washington to New York.

Throughout his life the summer months were spent taking vacation time to custom cut wheat across Grady County. The last 25 years of Sandy's life he has been an avid Oliver tractor collector with his son Jason and together they have created a collection of over 150 antique tractors which is one of the largest collections left of the Oliver. Sandy was a giant of a man, both in heart and in personality.

His absence will be most missed by those he has left behind including his wife of 56 years Shelley Hill, his son Jason Hill and wife Keisha, his grandchildren Travis Hill and Page, and Jayden Hill and Michael, his great grandchildren Evelyn and Capper, his brother David Hill and his lifetime best friend Montie Lee.

Services are under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha, OK.
