Wanema Burney passed from this life on Sunday, September 28, 2025 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 93. She was born on July 9, 1932 in Oklahoma City, OK to Homer and Thelma Cherry.

Funeral service for Wanema Burney will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at The Tuttle Methodist Church in Tuttle, OK at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle, OK under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Wanema, fondly called Nema, grew up in Tuttle and lived her whole life in Tuttle, OK. She graduated from Tuttle High School in 1950. She met and married the love of her life, James Burney, and they were married for 70 years until he passed in 2020. Nema and James had three daughters, Tyanne Garcia, Tawana Riley and Tricia Burney. She loved to watch the OKC Thunder, go shopping at Home Goods, and eat at Cracker Barrel.

Nema loved spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Thelma (Drake) Cherry; her husband, James Burney; her daughter, Tricia Burney; granddaughter, Kylie Hoover; great-grandson, Layden Roberts.

Loved ones left to remember Nema are her daughters, Tyanne Garcia and Tawana Riley and her husband Mike; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
