Wanda June Rackley McHargue was born November 6, 1928, in Watonga, Oklahoma, and passed from this world to Heaven on June 7, 2026, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She was the last surviving child of 17 children born to William and Maud (Nelson) Rackley. Having been born and raised during the Great Depression, she shared many stories about her family's struggles during that time and how those experiences shaped the rest of her life.
Wanda spent her school years in Oklahoma City until she left school after the eighth grade to help support her family. While still in school, she met the love of her life, Ralph "Pete" McHargue. They were married on August 9, 1946, when Pete was 18 and Wanda was 17. Wanda's father did not want her to marry, so her mother and aunt drove her to Guthrie, where they were married at the courthouse.
Wanda and Pete spent their early married years in New Mexico, where Pete worked as a lumberjack. During this time, their first child, Janet, was born. They later returned to Oklahoma and welcomed four more children: Ralph, Yvoneen, Jeff, and Darrel. They raised their family in Wheatland, Oklahoma, where Pete worked as a diesel mechanic and Wanda devoted herself to caring for their home and family. They and their children were members of Wheatland Baptist Church, where they built a foundation of faith that remained strong throughout their lives.
Throughout her life, Wanda treasured spending time with her family. Family was the most important thing in her world. Pete and Wanda's home was often filled with the sounds of children and grandchildren where she was known as Grandma Junebug. Together, they spent countless hours fishing and hosted annual fish fries for their family every Fourth of July. Wanda was especially known for her chocolate chip cookies, which she lovingly baked for everyone she cared about. Most of all, she will be remembered for the love and kindness she showed to others.
Pete and Wanda relocated from Wheatland to Chickasha in 2008, where Wanda lived for the remainder of her life. Pete preceded her in death in 2009 after 63 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Yvoneen Huffines, in 2019.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Janet McCool (Terry); her sons, Ralph (Rebecca), Jeff (Melissa), and Darrel (Robin); 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
The family takes comfort in knowing that Wanda is reunited with Pete and her loved ones and is at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior. She will be waiting for all of us.
