Vernon Eugene "Gene" Douglas was born November 10, 1933 in Tuttle, OK to Bennie Morgan and Opal Lillian (Jeffries) Douglas. He passed away on April 22, 2015 in Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 81. Mr. Douglas was born in Tuttle and raised on the farm. He played the piano and trumpet, excelling in sports. He wanted to become a sailor since the day his uncle sang, "Bell Bottom Blues". Soon after, he served in the Navy during the Korean War. Gene was highly involved in his church and served as youth director for 1st Baptist Tuttle, then later as Music Minister and Youth Director of Snow Hill Baptist. He coached football, basketball, baseball and track. He graduated from USAO where he was assistant baseball coach. Mr. Douglas married Anna Rachel Amster on February 21, 1954 in Jamul California. He was a member of the Chickasaw Trail Baptist Church in Davis, OK and the VFW and the American Legion. He is preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Everett Douglas; a sister-in-law, Johnnie Douglas; and a niece, Kathy. Mr. Douglas is survived by his wife, Anna Douglas of the home His 5 children: Michael Douglas and his wife, Scherie, of Houston, TX Pamela McClure and her husband, Tim, of Chickasha, OK Mark Douglas and his wife, Rhonda, of Oklahoma City, OK Sandy Hetherington and her husband, Bryan, of Davis, OK Matthew Douglas and his wife, Carla, of Houston, TX 3 brothers: Bobby Douglas and his wife, Teri, of Ft. Cobb, OK Bennie Raymond Douglas and his wife, Jeannie, of Minco, OK Donnie Douglas of Tuttle, OK A sister-in-law, Ruth Douglas of Tuttle, OK 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
