Vernice Marie Smithen

Vernice Marie (Robertson) Smithen was born March 4, 1927 in Weatherford, Oklahoma to Roy and Myrtle (Yearwood) Robertson.  She passed away on January 21, 2017 in Chickasha, OK at the age of 89.

Vernice married Carl Wilson Smithen on June 19, 1953 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He preceded her in death on December 25, 1990.

She graduated from Geary High School and was Homecoming Queen her senior year.

She had worked in the Navy office in Washington D.C. and worked at Tinker AFB and American Optical in Chickasha.  In 1987, she went to work with her husband at his attorney office.

She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and the Jaycee Janes.  Vernice was active in the Chickasha Band Parents.  She was also involved in various civic organizations and clubs with Wilson, which included Kiwanis and Chickasha Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Vernice is survived by her daughter, Carla Smithen;

And her cousin, Nancy Witt;

Nieces: Kerrin Riggs, Lynda McDonald and Sheryl Majors;

Nephews: Bobby Riggs and Steven Seabrook;

Sister-in-law, Gloria Thomas;

Brother-in-law, Robert Riggs;

And special companion, Chillie.
