R.T. Shaw, 94, of Ninnekah, Oklahoma, died Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Veterans Home in Payson, Utah. Born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, in 1924 to sharecroppers Oscar Burley and Pearl V. Shaw, R.T. grew up "behind a mule," dropping out of school freshman year to continue farming when his dad nearly died of dust pneumonia.
He passed through the great sieve of military service in World War II, which sent him to England.
D-Day was spent aboard a ship waiting to land on Omaha beach. Landing June 9 th the with the 402 nd fighter squadron of the 9 th Army Air Force then on to Belgium and Germany.
Upon return from the war, R.T. worked as a lineman for PSO. He married Reba Jo Godwin of Alex, Oklahoma, on June 5, 1949.
The couple settled in Grady County, where R.T. worked as an oil derick man.
As a member of the Air force Reserve he was called up for the Korean war and stationed in Roswell New Mexico. Upon his discharge he was employed by The Superior Oil Company in Chickasha.
Determined to be his own boss, he established a small engine repair shop, trucking company and an oil production management company. He was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints.
R.T. is survived by his sister LaDawn Pipes and her husband Nathan of Alex, Oklahoma, brother J.B. Shaw of Lawton , and Norma Jo Spence of Kentucky. his daughter Nancy Rebecca Shaw of Orem, Utah, and son Ted Shaw and wife Katy of Aurora, Colorado, grandchildren Tyler Shaw of Denver, Colorado, Amanda Shaw Newsome and husband Britt of Denver, Sam Shaw and wife Lindsey of Parker, Colorado, and great-grandchildren Maggie Ann, Will Sullivan, Josie Dee, Oscar Browne and Kathleen Caroline.
RT is preceded in death by his wife, Reba, his parents, sister Frankie Burnsworth , nephew Jerry Spence, nieces Jill Burnsworth and Julie Simon.
