Royce was born on March 16, 1947, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to James Henry Ferrell and Velma Lois Ferrell. He grew up in the Alex area graduating from Alex High School, Class of 1965. In 1966, Royce answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. After his time in the service, Royce dedicated his life to proudly serving the people of Grady County for many years as a Fire Captain and working at the Grady County Courthouse. On March 25, 1994, Royce married the love of his life, Kathy Ferrell (Johnson). Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and making memories. Royce loved spending time outdoors and could often be found golfing, duck hunting, or fishing. One of his greatest joys was traveling the country with Kathy and their family, creating many memories. Royce lived his life for Christ and devoted himself to caring for his family. He was a loving husband, dad, papa and g-papa.
Royce was preceded in death by his parents, James and Velma Ferrell; his brother, John Ferrell; his twin sister, Joyce; and his brother, Elton Ferrell.
He leaves behind his family who will continue to honor his legacy: devoted wife, Kathy Ferrell; daughter Amy and husband Greg Willmon; son Trevor and wife Erika O’Brien; son Eric and wife Pam O’Brien; and daughter Mandi and wife Raven Ferrell. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Samantha and husband Isaiah Stephens, Michael Willmon, Joseph O’Brien, Bayleigh O’Brien, Ayden Willmon, Keelie O’Brien, and Michael “Ollie” Ferrell; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Laiklynn Stephens and Becknir Stephens. He is also survived by his sister Janell Looney, and sister Kathy and husband Louis Medina.
Royce’s life was defined by faith, service, love, and laughter. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Refuge Hospice for the care and consideration they have shown Royce and Kathy through this difficult time.
