Richard was born the fourth of five children to Bruce and Ethel (White) Welch in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He died in his home in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the age of 85.
Richard attended school in Chickasha, graduating from Chickasha High School in 1955. He was a veteran of the USA Air Force serving four years in England during peacetime. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, he was employed at the local newspaper beginning a lifelong career in printing. The last print shop he established, which continues to operate today in Chickasha, is Richard's Printing, now owned and operated by his son-in-law and daughter Danny and Vicky King. Richard was married to June (Hair) from January 27th, 1989 until her death on August 31st, 2016.
Richard loved sports. He lettered in track at CHS. As a young man he played softball, later taking up bowling, and at retirement he took up golf. He was a fan was OU football, basketball, and women's softball. He traveled to see the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers play. He spent countless weekend hours on the sofa, watching with his eyes closed, whatever sport was on TV. He loved casino gambling with his beloved wife June even more.
Richard is survived by his daughter Debra Keener and husband Joe, daughter Dedra Welch and partner Jennifer Pierce, daughter Vicky King and husband Danny, daughter Susan Milam and husband Bobby, sister Jane Swalley and husband Harvey Joe, brother Gene Welch, brother Walt Welch and wife Patty; grandchildren: Ethel Morris, Faye Morris and husband Logan, Kaydee King and partner Ben Kadavy, Colby King and wife Lacie, Lindsay McDaniel and husband Aaron, Casey Milam and wife Katherine; nephew Robin Henson and wife Angela, nieces: Sabra Bischop and husband, Barbara Welch and wife Jean, numerous great-grandchildren, great nieces and nephews; and family friend Patti Wilson.
Proceeding him in death are his parents, his wife June, his sister Charlotte Welch Henson, his stepdaughter Brenda Hershey, and his niece Sherri Messer.
Richard's ashes were interred beside his wife June in Rose Hill Cemetery, Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Richard's sense of humor and love of family will be sorely missed.
