Peggy Ann “Jackie” Hurd passed from this life on February 15, 2026 in Norman, OK at the age of 86.
Born in Uvalde, TX to Fred and Peggy Richardson, she was a self-described “pill” as a spoiled only child who loved to climb trees and help her mom in the office of the family’s plumbing business. When she was 16, she surprised her parents by running off and marrying a quiet, handsome country boy named Rex. As a social butterfly, his big boisterous family suited her perfectly and she had so much fun dancing, laughing and cutting up with them.
She loved people and made many lifelong friends throughout her travels as she and Rex went between Oklahoma, Arizona and California following the seasonal produce work, and she regularly kept in touch with them on her famous hours long phone conversations.
She and Rex welcomed their first son Randy in 1957, followed by Debbie and later Ronald. She relished being a mom and could never say enough how precious her kids were to her.
Through her close relationship with her mother-in-law Vera, she was introduced to Jehovah’s Witnesses. She built a strong faith in Jehovah that would carry her through the most trying times a mother and wife could face when she lost two of her three children and her best friend Rex. That strength allowed her to keep a smile on her face and still be grateful for every day and thankful to all who helped her along the way. She loved life and she loved her children and grandchildren even more. You never had to wonder how she felt about you, because she loved fiercely and would tell you every time she saw you. She never knew a stranger. She was a light in this world and her joyfulness was contagious. She took delight in the simplest things and she was known to love a McDonald’s coffee that was never big enough, watching the cows eat and getting on to them when they pushed each other, people watching at Sonic with a coke and onion rings, a road trip to Yuma or anywhere really, card games, a good plate of Mexican food (she never had a bad one), sitting on the porch with Rex and being with “her kids” doing anything.
She was one of a kind and her absence is profound, but she would want to remind everyone that she loved you and to “be careful and watch out for the other guy”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her parents in law and two children. She will be greatly missed and her memory carried on by her beloved son, all of her grandchildren and her countless family and friends.
A memorial for Jackie will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 6th, 2026, at the Chickasha Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses
