Chief Pat Ruth QMC (USN-RET) was born September 6, 1940 in Coalgate, Oklahoma to Homer Ennis and Bertha Esteller (Snead) Ruth. He passed away on Monday May 11, 2015 in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the age of 74. Pat married Cheryl Ann Mix on July 14, 1967 in Monterrey, California. Pat enlisted in the Army National Guard in December of 1957 and transferred to the United States Navy on April 22nd 1958. Pat completed basic training at RTC- San Diego on June 25th 1958 and began his Naval career aboard the air craft carrier USS Bennington (CVS-20) in the ships navigation department. On January 5, 1962 Pat was transferred to the Submarine Tender USS Sperry (AS-12). Pat later served as supervisor of port control at Pearl Harbor Hawaii. Then to Navy Post Graduate School in Monterrey, California for duty aboard a Navy oceanographic research vessel as a craft-master. Later duties include Skipper of a Navy tug boat at NAVSTA Treasure Island, Ca. In October of 1969 Pat was transferred to the Vietnam Theater where he saw combat on river patrol boats and on logistics and support craft in the Mekong Delta. He then served aboard the destroyer USS George K. Mackenzie (DD-836) for four years as an assistant navigator where he saw more combat action in Vietnam. Chief Pat Ruth QMC (USN-RET) retired from the Navy in 1978 after 21 years on active duty and then retired in 2003 from his career as an automotive technician. He is preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Pat is survived by his wife Cheryl Ruth of Chickasha, Ok. 2 sons: Mark Ruth and Michael Ruth and his wife, Elizabeth 2 daughters: Sharon Ruth and Connie Farley of Chickasha, OK. Multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren A sister: Angie Friskel of Chickasha, Ok. and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
