Patsy Ruth Fowler, the daughter of pioneer Oklahomans Jerry R and Olive Wood Fowler, was born October 7, 1926 on her Grandmother Phoebe Wood's farm near Anadarko in Caddo County and died on February 17, 2021. She grew up there with two sisters and four brothers and was educated in Grady County schools until graduation from Alex High School in 1944 as Valedictorian. She received a Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Technology from the University of Oklahoma, where as a student, she worked at the radio station WNAD and in the Bacteriology Laboratories. She then trained at the Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California to become a California and nationally certified medical laboratory technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Later she studied at the University of Southern California to earn a Master of Science in Medical Microbiology. Upon returning to Oklahoma in 1960 she worked at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City and then at the Federal Aviation Administration Civil Aeromedical Institute for twenty-six years as a research physiologist.
She felt loved by her family and friends and loved them in return, especially the two children, Kelly and Elizabeth that she helped raise. She had a life-long interest and curiosity in the natural world in all its grandeur. Her interest in literature, classical music, science and scientific discoveries never diminished. She also knitted nineteen Christmas stockings for family. She enjoyed travel that included Japan, Turkey, many European countries, Mexico, Morocco and all across America.
She was a long time member of the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War and Nouveau Livre Book Club in addition to a 37 year member of the Integris Baptist Volunteer Auxiliary in which she had over 9,000 hours of service, becoming a life time member in 2005. She requested that "America the Beautiful" and Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land", be sung at her internment.
As in the prayer of Black Elk, she faced the winds and walked the good road to the day of quiet.
Survivors include: Bruce Fowler (Buttons), Kent Fowler (Wanda), John Fowler Jr. (Dianne), Tom Fowler (Karen), Anne Ozello (Frank), Donna Fowler, many great nieces and nephews and several (and growing) great great nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held Monday, February 22, 2021 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha, OK.
