Nelda Entz Slover

Nelda Entz Slover passed away on March 14, 2026, in Chickasha, OK, at the age of 97.

Nelda was born August 20, 1928, in Blanchard, OK. She was a loving and loyal daughter and only child of Henry and Mattie Entz. Her family moved from Blanchard to Chickasha in the early 1950’s, and Nelda continued to live in the same home until about a year before her passing.

Nelda attended her beloved University of Oklahoma and was one of the Sooners’ biggest cheerleaders throughout her life. In 1956, she started working for the First National Bank, where she continued to work for decades.

We are not sure as to when Nelda first met the love of her life, George Sterling Slover, but in 1971, he finally convinced her to marry him. They were happily married until his death in 2011.

Nelda was a member of First Baptist Church of Chickasha and loved her church. Her family has described her as being one of the kindest, gentlest, most even tempered people imaginable. She had a smile and kind word for and about everyone. Her passions included her love for Jesus Christ, friends and family, and Sooners football. Two of her favorite treats were Braum’s ice cream and Dr. Pepper, which we are convinced may have been the secret to her long and happy life. Nelda was an avid owl collector, amassing pieces from all over the world thanks to the many gifts her traveling family and friends brought home.

The family wishes to thank Nelda’s many friends for their care and friendship over the years. We would like to especially thank SueEllen Ummel and her family, who were always there when Nelda needed them. We also want to thank the “Girls at the Bank” as Nelda endearingly referred to them, for their concern and help.

Nelda was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband George Sterling Slover, close friend CraigAnn Ummel, and her nephew Steven Ray Helmly of Georgia, with whom she shared a very special bond. They kept each other in stitches with their conversations. We are sure they are chatting now! She is survived by Steve’s wife, Peggy, a nephew, Ron Helmly (Maria) of Jackson, GA, and a niece, Diane Fairey (Robbie) of Johns Island, SC. Her legacy also continues through six great nieces and nephews, along with several great-great nieces, and nephews, and cousins.

We invite you to join us in remembering Nelda and celebrating her life on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Sevier Funeral Home in Chickasha. Burial will immediately follow at Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
