Millard V. Edwards

August 6, 1922 — July 10, 2015

Millard Vernon Edwards was born to parents, George Washington Edwards and Addie Hope Edwards, in Hitchita, Oklahoma, on August 6, 1922, and died peacefully at home on July 10, 2015 at the age of 92, holding the hand of his loving wife, Lois Geneva Yancey Edwards. Millard wed his young bride on May 19, 1945. They were married for over 70 splendid years. He fondly stated "We grew up together." Millard moved to the Verden, Oklahoma area with his family at the age of six. He was raised during the hardships of the Depression and endured the harsh days of the Dust Bowl. Millard learned early the great virtues of being frugal. He attended a one-room school house called Prairie View. From those humble beginnings he entered a business life working as a Service Station Attendant, Industrial Tradesman, and milk Deliveryman before finding his life's calling working for The National Life and Accident Ins. Co. based out of Nashville, TN. His high performance soon earned him a Staff Manager position where he was highly regarded by his staff of salesmen and well loved by the clients he served. Millard liked to boast that The National Life Insurance Company owned the WSM radio station in Nashville and also, sponsored The Grand Ole Opry. Oh, how he loved his old-time country music, and could sing you a fine tune! Millard accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in August 1946. He has been a vigilant example of God's Love by action and deed ever since. Millard has served as Deacon and he taught numerous Sunday School classes, leading many people to the loving grace of Jesus Christ. He witnessed daily to each and every one he encountered. He was preceded in death by his parents, George "Wash" and Addie Edwards; and brothers and sisters, Ollie, Haskel, Grace, Opal, Bud, Otis, and Bob; and his eldest daughter, Judy Edwards Taylor. Millard is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lois, of the home; son, Gary Edwards and wife Barbara, Chickasha, Oklahoma; son-in-law, Lee Taylor, Anadarko, Oklahoma; daughter, Laura Edwards Hopkins and husband, Gerald, Iowa Park, Texas; daughter, Sue Edwards Ledford and husband, Donnie, Rush Springs, Oklahoma; son, Craig Edwards and wife, Tonya, Anadarko, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.
