Melba Dean Kell

Melba Kell, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the age of 86.  She was born Melba Dean Humphrey on August 24, 1931 to Holland and Mildred Humphrey.

She lived in the Friend community her entire life.  Melba attended Friend School where she developed a love for reading and played basketball. She graduated in 1949 as Valedictorian of her class.  She later attended Oklahoma College for Women.  After two years of college, she married her high school sweetheart Edward Kell, and they had five children together.  Melba's whole life revolved around her children.  She loved reading to them and cooking for them. This is how she showed her love.

Melba also loved her church where she served the Lord in many ways.  She played the piano and organ for Sharon Baptist for over 50 years.  Another way she served the Lord was using her cooking skills at Falls Creek and for many church activities.  She was probably best known for her cinnamon rolls. Her service and tremendous faith was not only an inspiration to her children but to all that knew her.

Melba was preceded in death by her parents; by her brothers, Marshall Humphrey, Kenneth Humphrey, and Joe Humphrey; and by her sisters Florence (Humphrey) Dunn, Sarah Ann (Humphrey) Kell.

She is survived by her children: Sareca (Kell) Wilson (Jay) of Morris, Ok; Edward Howard Kell, Jr. of Chickasha, Ok; Sharlene Kell (Anna) of Norman, Ok; Melanie (Kell) Files (Todd) of Broken Arrow, Ok; and Sarah Dawn (Kell) Bishop (Steven) of Andover, KS.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Evan Wedel, Laura Dawn Guthrie, Melissa Gonzales, Audrey Files, Zoë Bishop, and Seth Bishop;

one sister, Carolyn Albright (Arlen)

and by numerous nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.  Melba was adored by all.
