It is with heavy hearts and a lifetime of fond memories that we say goodbye to Mary Ann Layman of Chickasha, Oklahoma. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 9, 2026, at the age of 80, where she was reunited once again with her beloved husband, Lonnie. Mary was born on May 13, 1946, in Fresno, California, to Homer and Wanda Shataswell Hopkins. Both of her parents preceded her in death, as did her beloved husband, Lonnie.
Mary married the love of her life, Lonnie Layman, on March 31, 1972. Together they built a beautiful life, raising three children and sharing 51 years of marriage. After moving to Chickasha in 1980, Mary began working for TG&Y, where she was quickly promoted to manager. Her greatest accomplishment, however, was her family. She was immensely proud of her three children, who inherited her compassion, strength, and determination. In her later years, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren became the light of her life.
Anyone who knew Mary never forgot her. She carried a positive spirit, a contagious smile, and a remarkable ability to brighten even the hardest days. Her laughter was infectious, and she never met a stranger. Mary welcomed everyone with open arms, and her home was a gathering place filled with love, warmth, and laughter. Her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews spent countless hours at her home, and the friends who tagged along after school were treated like bonus grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Mary loved deeply and unconditionally. Family members will forever remember the way she would pull them in for one last hug—and often a big smack right on the lips before saying goodbye.
Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Jerry Layman and wife Shelia; daughter, Shari Brunt; and son, Allen Layman, all of Chickasha, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Steven Layman and wife Jenn of Chickasha, Oklahoma; Kyle Buckner of Knoxville, Tennessee; Staci and Joey Gardi of Chickasha, Oklahoma; Alicia Stephens and husband Chance of Moore, Oklahoma; Laci Bond and Mitchell Danker of Wellston, Oklahoma; and Jakeb Layman of Chickasha, Oklahoma. She was blessed with ten great-grandchildren: Londyn Layman; Kace and Luca Gardi; Alicia Lopez and Victorya Lacy; and Ava Ann Bond, Case, Easton, Oaklee, and Preslee Danker. Mary is also survived by her sisters-in-law Connie Oliver, Martha DeSimone, Penny Greco, Caroline Harrell, Glenda Layman, and Freida Layman; brother-in-law Gary Layman; her very special friend Barbara Johns; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
As we say goodbye to Mary, let us remember her generous spirit, compassionate heart, unwavering love for family, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Forever in Our Hearts.
