Marvin Lavern Rice, 96, of Chickasha, OK went to be with his Lord on Monday, November 9, 2020.
He was born on January 15 th , 1924 in Lindsay, OK to Timothy and Mabel Rice. Marvin completed the eighth grade at Pikes Peak School, near Erin Springs, OK.
In 1936 at 13 years of age, Marvin worked in the broomcorn harvests near Lindsay and later drove his Model A Ford throughout Oklahoma and Arkansas regrooving tires. In 1943, he and his family moved from the Lindsay area to Chickasha, OK. In 1948, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and was part of the 31st Infantry regiment known as the Polar Bears. He was stationed at Hokkaido, Japan and was a small arms specialist. He was honorably discharged in 1950 at the rank of corporal.
After returning to the USA in 1950, he operated a Texaco service station at 6 th and Choctaw in Chickasha and married Yuma Imogene Palmer on June 21, 1952 in Chickasha, OK.
For the next several years he worked at Hess Oil in Chickasha and operated a Champlin service station on 3 rd Street. In his later working years, he worked for Premier Trailers and Carl-Built Industries until his retirement in 1989. After retirement, Marvin started working on sewing machines and continued that service until 2018.
Marvin was an ordained deacon at Trinity Baptist Church, and later served as a deacon and treasurer of Michigan Avenue Baptist Church. In the early 2000's, Marvin oversaw the building of the new Trinity Baptist Church building on Almar Drive in Chickasha. His joys were praying for others and sharing the gospel.
Marvin also served as Scoutmaster of Troop 304 in the early 1970's. In 1978, he built a new residence by his own labor, where he and Imogene lived until his passing.
Marvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother to his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yuma Imogene Rice, his father and mother, Timothy and Mabel Rice, and his sisters Bonnie Ray Rice and Joan Johnson.
His survivors include his son, Randall Rice and his wife Janet of Oklahoma City, grandsons William Ryan Rice and wife Joni of Pauls Valley, OK and Rory Rice and wife Addie of Glencoe, OK. Great-grandsons, Braeden Rice, Charlie Rice and Benjamin Rice, his brother Willie Ben Rice of Duncan, OK and sister Yvonne Reed also of Duncan.
Marvin and his family would like to express their great gratitude to friends who brought meals, the DAV of Chickasha for help with yard work, Around the Clock Home Care, Senior Meals of Chickasha and LifeLine Home Health.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, November 14 th at 1 p.m., with William Ryan Rice officiating, at Erin Springs Cemetery, just south of Lindsay under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha, OK.
