Marilyn Joyce Barrington, 79, passed away on April 6, 2024.  She was a resident at Glen Haven Assisted Living in Chickasha.


Marilyn was born May 26, 1944, in Chickasha, OK to Otto and Cleo Barrington. She grew up in the Lucile Community where her family farmed. She graduated from Chickasha High School and Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha.


In her lifetime she has taught Science, Geography, and History in the Cache, OK ISD, and Fabens, TX ISD.  She returned to Oklahoma and finished her teaching career at the Healdton, OK ISD where she became Teacher of the Year.


Marilyn loved singing in church choirs, knitting, and crocheting.  She was an excellent cook and did lots of decorating for many holidays and events.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant sister Lennie Elaine, her brother Harold Barrington of Bradley OK, and nephew Kent Barrington of Bradley, OK.

She is survived by two sisters: Betty Barrington of Chickasha and Pat (Husband Bill) Thompson of Temple, TX.  Six nephews and families: Steve Barrington of Bradley, OK; Randy Barrington of Bradley, OK; Toby Barrington of Alex, OK; Scott Barrington of Chickasha, OK; Derrel Thompson of Temple TX, and Larry Thompson of Birmingham, AL.


A memorial service is planned for May 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Marlow, OK Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Barrington/Nichols/Thompson Scholarship Fund at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Samford.edu/give/online
