Lonnie "Babe" Layman was born to Alonzo and Lorene Layman in Vivian, Oklahoma on August 14, 1949. He passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in Chickasha, Oklahoma surrounded by his family at the age of 74.

Funeral services will be held for Lonnie "Babe" Layman on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 1:30p.m at Bible Baptist Church under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Reverend Kim Hayes will be officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Babe was one of 12 children raised on a dairy farm in Eufaula, Oklahoma. He graduated from Stidham High School in 1967 and attended Okmulgee Technical School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War. When the war was over, he returned to Oklahoma and met his lovely wife, Mary Ann Layman. Babe then attended college at OSU. He and his wife Mary had three children: Jerry, Shari and Allen Layman. Lonnie went on to attend college at Eastern Oklahoma State in Wilburton, OK, Central State University in Edmond, OK, and finished at USAO in Chickasha, OK.  After years of working off-shore as a welder, he decided to move his family to Chickasha, OK where he was the Welding instructor at the Canadian Valley Technology Center for over 25 years. Lonnie retired in 2004, but never quit working. He immediately began Layman Welding Service where he worked with his sons and grandsons. He always had a strong work ethic, which he instilled in his children. Babe loved spending time with his children, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Lorene Layman; his brothers: Clonnie Layman, Ronnie Layman, John Layman, and Donnie Layman; his sisters, Bonnie Sue Gorby and Alisa Layman, He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann, daughter Shari & husband Acie Brunt, Sons: Allen Layman and Jerry Layman & wife Sheila all of Chickasha.  Brother, Gary Layman, Sisters: Connie Oliver of West Virginia, Caroline Harrell and spouse Grady of Chickasha, Penelope Greco and spouse Marty of Stigler, Martha Desimone and spouse Michael, of Massachusetts, Sister-n-laws:  Freida Layman & Glenda Layman both of Eufaula.  Grandchildren: Kyle Buckner and wife Jandi, Steven Layman and wife Jenn, Staci Gardi and husband Joey, Laci Bond, Jakeb Layman and Alicia Lopez and husband Chance, his great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Honorary Pallbearers:  Jerry Layman, Allen Layman, Acie Brunt.  Pallbearers:  Steven Layman, Kyle Buckner, Jakeb Layman, Joey Gardi, Grady Harrell and CJ Mitchell.
