Linda Ann Humphrey

Linda Ann (Lair) Humphrey passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in Oklahoma City. Linda was born on February 15, 1934 as the sixth and last child of Eva Laura (Myers) Lair and Thomas Earl Lair in a small home east of Verden, OK. She lived and attended school in Minco area until fourth grade when her family moved to Tuttle. She attended school there until her sophomore year in high school when her parents moved to a farm east of Chickasha and she began attending Friend School where she graduated in 1952. After high school, Linda lived in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, working for Western Union and First National Bank of Oklahoma City. On May 8, 1954, she married Joe Gordon Humphrey, son of Mildred (Taylor) Humphrey and H.G. Humphrey, in Chickasha. They lived in the Fort Hood area while Joe was serving in the army and had their first child, Jacqueline Gaye Humphrey in 1955. Shortly thereafter, they moved back to Chickasha, living east of Chickasha most of their lives where Joe resumed farming with his father and Linda began working at Oklahoma National Bank where she worked for 30 years. In 1966, Joe Gordon Humphrey, Jr. was born and in 1971, Holland Glenn Humphrey was born, both in Chickasha. They attended Sharon Baptist Church. Linda went on to work for Local Federal Savings & Loan for several years, then worked for Hertz Reservation Service and Oklahoma Turnpike Authority. In 2002, Joe and Linda moved to Amarillo, Texas to be near their daughter, Jacqueline Humphrey, and her family. After Joe's death in September 2002, Linda remained in Amarillo for a few years, marrying William (Bill) Woelfel in 2006. A few years later, Linda and Bill moved to Oklahoma City, where she lived the remainder of her life. Linda is survived by her three children: Jacqueline Humphrey and her husband, Rob Chafin and their daughter, Jacqueline Humphrey Chafin of Amarillo; Joe Humphrey, Jr. and his wife, Susan Humphrey and their two sons, Cale and Finn Humphrey, of Frisco, Texas; and Holland Humphrey and his wife Rebecca Humphrey and their two children, Andrew Peterson and Lucy Humphrey, of Liberty, Missouri (Kansas City area). She is also survived by her husband, Bill Woelfel, and his two daughters, Sherry Russ and Melissa Woelfel. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, 36 nieces and nephews and their families, and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Joe G. Humphrey in 2002, her parents, Earl Lair in 1969 and Eva Lair in 1992, her brother Mearl Lair in 1920, her brother Luster Lair in 1986, her sister, Margaret Lair Kunz in 1994, her sister Beatrice Lair Young in 1996, and her brother, Thomas Jefferson (T.J.) Lair in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her mother-in law, father-in-law, and several brothers and sisters in law and one nephew. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Curing Autism Now or the University of Oklahoma Foundation.
