Clarence Lenard "Lefty" Maher, Jr., of Chickasha, Oklahoma, passed away at his home on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the age of 88. He was born February 14, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Clarence and Mabel Maher.
Lefty was a 1948 graduate of Woodruff High School. He was captain of the track team and the All City Football Team. Lefty served in the United State Army during the Korean War. Lefty received his law degree from the University of Oklahoma and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity at OU.
He married Jane Sumner on June 11, 1955 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma and to this union they had six children. Also in 1955 he began his career as an attorney with Walt Allen and Sam Williams. During his career, Lefty served as the County Attorney, Assistant District Attorney, County Judge and the Associate District Judge. In 1980 he became a Probate Attorney which he has practiced until recently. Throughout his career he was a crusader for children and human rights for which he started Lefty's Lighthouse, which was for adolescents in trouble.
Lefty was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church of Chickasha.
He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Patricia Josephine; a brother Bill Maher, and an infant sister and brother.
Lefty is survived by his wife of 63 years, Olga Jane Maher;
His children: Tom Maher, Mary Cagniard, Michael Maher, Jill Lyles and Steve Maher;
9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, Lefty requested memorial donations be made to Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 748, Chickasha, OK 73023.
