Karen Kay Cunningham

May 11, 1959 – September 30, 2026

Karen Cunningham passed away in her home on September 30, 2026.

Karen was born on May 11, 1959, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to the late Glenn Walter Richardson and Naomi Mae (Pitts) Richardson. She grew up in Verden, Oklahoma, where she met the love of her life, Dean Cunningham. Karen and Dean were married on July 27, 1979, and together built a life centered around love, family, faith, and the many memories they shared throughout their years together.

Karen was a wonderfully creative soul with a true gift for making beautiful things. She had a lifelong passion for crafts and flowers and found great joy in creating and sharing her talents with others. Over the years, she traveled to craft shows showcasing her handmade creations and later turned her creativity into a successful Etsy shop. What began as something she simply loved became a way for Karen to share a little piece of herself with people near and far.

Above all, Karen will be remembered for her kind and caring heart and her deep love for her family. She was a woman of strong faith who faithfully prayed for the people she loved and for anyone she knew who needed prayer. Her compassion, generosity, and gentle spirit touched countless lives. She loved deeply, cared genuinely, and had a way of making those around her feel loved.

Karen especially treasured her role as a Baba. Her precious grandchildren, Madi Kay Cunningham and Easton Cunningham, held an incredibly special place in her heart and brought her immeasurable joy. She loved watching all of their sporting events and attending every recital.

Karen is survived by her loving husband, Dean Cunningham; her son Daniel Cunningham and his wife, Shelby of Verden; her son Michael Cunningham and his wife Jessica of Chickasha, and her beloved grandchildren, Madi Kay Cunningham and Easton Cunningham of Chickasha.

She is also survived by her niece Lisa McElroy Wright and her husband, Dennis Wright of Norman; her niece Lauren and husband Kyle Craig of Shawnee; her nephew Greg McElroy and his wife Kelli of Oologah; her nephew Scott Hendry of Shawnee; and her great-nephews Carter Craig, Eli, Ethan, and Evan McElroy. Karen also leaves behind a large and loving network of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were made better by knowing her.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn Walter Richardson and Naomi Mae (Pitts) Richardson, and her older sisters, Linda Joyce McElroy and Janell Sue Hendry.

Karen’s passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her. Yet, in the midst of their sorrow, her family finds comfort in knowing that a woman who spent so much of her life praying for others is now home with the Lord.

Her memory will live on in the family she loved so dearly, the beautiful things she created, the flowers she adored, the lives she touched, and the countless prayers she offered on behalf of others. Karen leaves behind a legacy of faith, creativity, kindness, and love that will continue through all those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.

A celebration of Karen’s life will be held on October 5th, 2026 at 10:00 am at Sevier’s Funeral Home in Chickasha. Dr. Scott Hendry and the Rev. Greg McElroy will be officiating the memorial service.
