Chickasha

Joy Ann Newsome passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, February 1, 2026 in Chickasha, OK at the age of 80. She was born on August 12, 1945 in Greensboro, N.C.

Joy Ann Newsome was a loving mother and sister and Nanaw. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, decorating and working puzzles up until the end of her life. At an early age, she learned the ropes of being a farmer’s wife, with the gardening and chicken houses. Joy was an active member of her daughters’ schools P.T.A. Joy enjoyed camping, fishing, and being outside.

In 2017, Joy was saved and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.

She always said her purpose in life was taking care of her three girls. She saw being a mom as a passion. All of her girls were into sports, so she was the softball/basketball/rodeo Mom. She always made sure her girls made it to every single practice and every game. Even later in life, her girls could call her, if they were feeling down, and she could always make them feel better by the time they hung up the phone.

Joy was married to the love of her life, Henry Newsome, for 41 years. They had an inseparable bond.

Joy was a fantastic cook. Her cooking was the best, and it will be dearly missed. Her girls will keep this tradition alive. They will continue to carry on using her recipes and holding the memories of her incredible cooking.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Newsome; her step-father, George Nicholas; her mother, Mary Elizabeth (Mangum) Lyner; sisters, Joan Elizabeth Matthews and Brenda Gail Newsome.

Joy is survived by her daughters, Lisa and husband Dave Schimming of Georgia, Cathy and husband Lee Ring of Texas, Debborah Harp of Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Blake Mills, Coley Harp, Carley Wiseman, Markie Hays; and numerous great grandchildren whom she loved dearly; her brother, Danny Green and Denise Lorenzo; special sisters, Sherri Green and Betty Lou Riggins.
