John Wesley Van Hauen was born January 15, 1949, in Enid Oklahoma to Wesley and Mae-Jette Van Hauen. He grew up in Marshall Oklahoma, working in the wheat fields from the time he was young, and it was this work every summer that allowed him to pay his way through college at Central State University where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration. While in Edmond, he met Joyce Wood, his wife-to-be. It was not love at first sight between this city girl and country boy but his quiet, calm, gentlemanly ways eventually won her over and on November 7, 1970, they were married in Oklahoma City. They were blessed with three children: Amy, Allison and Brad and six grandchildren: Abigail, Hunter, Cooper, Carson, Aden and Spencer.
It was the story of the Prodigal Son that brought John to a saving knowledge of Jesus when he was 35 years old. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Tuttle where he served as a Sunday school teacher for 10th grade boys, the media technician and on various committees. Later in life he and Joyce served faithfully at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Newcastle. He was a hard worker who lived to serve not only his family but his church family and anyone else who reached out to him for help. He was quiet by nature but there were two things that would make him the most animated: when he spoke of the things God was teaching him from the Bible and whenever he attended one of his children or grandchildren's sporting events. He attended numerous cheer competitions, dance recitals and little league games where he was sure to say, "Good job" or "Great game" and "I'm proud of you". He always said the greatest blessing God gave him was his family. He was a quiet, strong, faithful man who served his family and his Lord to the best of his ability all his life and he will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Loved ones left to remember him include his wife, Joyce Wood; his children: Amy Van Hauen Donihoo of Tuttle, OK; Allison Van Hauen Anderson of Tuttle, OK; and Bradley John Van Hauen of Newcastle, OK.
