John (J.M.) Townsend

John Martin (J.M.) Townsend was born July 15, 1931 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to John Homer and Daisy Mae (Kerr) Townsend.  He passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at his home in Chickasha at the age of 85.

Mr. Townsend served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Aidman during the Korean War, receiving a Good Conduct medal and an Honorable Discharge.  He married Mary Margarette Smith on June 13, 1959 in Borger, Texas.

He was owner and operator of Grady County Feed & Seed for many years.  He enjoyed helping others and made many friends during the years he owned his own business.  In addition, he was very active in agriculture and raising farm animals, mostly hogs and sheep.  He loved to garden, hunt, fish and train Border Collie dogs.  He had many friends who loved to hear his stories.  He was devoted to his family and church.

Mr. Townsend was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chickasha and a 32nd Degree Mason of Lodge 94 in Chickasha.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Daisy Townsend, and his younger brother, H.R. Townsend.

He is survived by his wife, Margarette Townsend of the home;

2 sons:  Stephen Townsend and his wife, Suzie, of Cheyenne, WY

Paul Townsend and his wife, Stacy, of Chickasha, OK;

A daughter, Teresa Thorne and her husband, Marty, of Chickasha, OK;

Grandchildren:  Heather Townsend White and her husband, Colby, of Cheyenne, WY;

Bryce Thorne and his wife, Jourdan, of Tulsa, OK;

Blake Townsend and his wife, Bryce, and children, Mekho and Sadie of Fayetteville, GA;

Bradley Thorne of Del City, OK;

Brooke Keen and her husband, Jesse, and their son, Michael, of Lebanon, MO;

Brandon Townsend of Chickasha, OK;

And many cousins and extended family.
