Funeral service for Jodie W. Sevier, 91, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Chickasha. Jodie W. Sevier was born November 13, 1916 in Clifton, Texas the son of Walter and Lida (Essary) Sevier and died Saturday, August 16, 2008 in Chickasha. Jodie was raised in Borger, Texas. He moved to Oklahoma City in the 1930's and graduated from high school in Oklahoma City. He received his embalmer's license in 1938 and alter received his funeral director license. Jodie moved to Chickasha almost 70 years ago and became associated with the Chickasha Funeral Home which later became Sevier Funeral Home until his retirement in 1975. Jodie was involved in many community and professional activities. He received Man of the Year in 1941 from Chickasha Jaycees. He was a member of the Red Cross, Masonic Lodge, Chamber of Commerce, Lion's Club, FFA, Rodeo Association, AMBUCS, I00F, Little League and was PA announcer for Chickasha High School basketball and Chickasha Chief's baseball team. Jodie was president of Oklahoma Mortician of the Southwest in 1954 & 1962. He served as president of the Conference of Funeral Service Examining Board in 1963. Jodie served on the Oklahoma Funeral Director and Embalming Board for over 20 years and was instrumental in creating the Funeral Service Department at UCO. He purchased the Sowers Funeral Home in 1966. He received the Chisholm Trail Man of the Year in 1982 and received 50 year pins from the OFDA, Chickasha Lion's Club and the Chickasha Masonic Lodge. Jodie was a member of the First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years and served as chairman of the deacons. In 2007, he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from the Chickasha Lion's Club. Jodie was preceded in death by his parents; one great granddaughter, Brandie Hughes; and one brother. Survivors include Virginia Sevier One son and his wife, Larry and Linda Sevier of Chickasha Three daughters: Betty Rodgers, Patsy Holstein and Janice Say 11 grandchildren, including: Todd Sevier, April Kile and her husband, Jeff of Chickasha; Many great grandchildren including Jeremy, Austin and Brayden Kile of Chickasha Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
