Jb Shaw

February 13, 1928 — November 21, 2022

Lawton

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

JB Shaw was born February 13, 1928 in Shawnee, Oklahoma as the second child and son of Oscar Burley Shaw and Pearl V. (Hill) Shaw. He was always smaller in size than his older brother that got to work more with his Dad so he worked more alongside his Mother so he was very close to his Mother. He joined the Air Force during World War II when he was old enough to enlist.

JB worked at various jobs during his lifetime. He worked at a cheese processing plant in Chickasha, Ok. He never did like cheese much after that. He also drove a city bus in Chickasha for a while. He married Verna Bea Wynn on October 5, 1948. They moved to Canadian, Texas and bought a home where he worked for the Texas Highway Department. While living there their twin girls were born but Verna Bea went back to Chickasha for them to be delivered. They lived there for a while but decided to move to Leadville, Colorado, and go to work in the coal mines. After living there, for a while they moved back to Chickasha and JB started driving a truck long haul.

Later in life, JB moved to Arizona where he worked for Circle K for a while then settled into his final job at O'Malley's Lumber Yard where he worked for several years. Just before full retirement, his mother passed away, so he came back to live and take care of his Dad. He stayed on at the home in Chickasha after his father's death until he was no longer able to care for himself, so he moved to the VA Center in Lawton where he passed away Monday, November 21, 2022.

JB never met a stranger. He was a people person and would give you the shirt off his back. He was self-taught to play the guitar. He had friends that played guitars and they would get together and play and sing until all hours of the night.  He liked to bowl and golf. He had a routine of every morning going to Braums and eating breakfast and drinking coffee with the guys and knew all the people that worked at Braums. Then for some reason, they all moved to McDonald's and had breakfast, had coffee, and visited. There got to be fewer and fewer of them through the years because they passed on.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Burley and Pearl (Hill) Shaw; brother R.T. Shaw; sister, Frankie Burnworth; granddaughter, Carrie Bishop.

JB is survived by his daughters, Bergilda "Bert" Scarbarough of Chickasha, OK, and Clothilda "Jackie" Rohling of Chickasha, OK; grandchildren, Melissa Duncan of Flower Mount TX, LaVerna Gilbert of Stillwater, Randall Rohling, Brien Rohling, Curtis Rohling; great-grandchildren, Brittany Standing, Glen Allen Duncan, Arionna Gilbert; great great-grandchildren, Daniel, Olivia, McKenzie Standing; sisters, Norma Jo Spence of Murray, Kentucky, Ladawn Pipes of Oklahoma City, OK, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
