J.B. Mccarthey, Jr.

June 15, 1947 — May 24, 2017

Jasper Benjamin "JB" McCarthey, Jr. passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 69.  He was born June 15, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to J.B. and Betty (Eudy) McCarthey.

JB married Sharon Ann Rendel on July 1, 1967 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and made their home in Tuttle.

JB was raised in Tuttle and graduated from Tuttle High School in 1965.  He worked for Southwest Electric for 29 years from 1965 to 1994.  From 1994 to 2017 he owned McCarthey Farm Equipment east of Tuttle. Not only did he enjoy selling equipment as an occupation, he really enjoyed getting to visit and talk with many wonderful people and many that he met over the years still stop and visit.  The place where JB sold tractors became known as the "Tractor House" because it was the house that JB grew up in.  During the past several months, friends have been stopping by to ask how JB is doing because they noticed things were not the same because JB's truck has not been there on a regular basis.  JB had a very strong work ethic and had that from very early years of working.

One thing many knew about him was that he liked to buy a pick-up and drive it a little while until he thought it was time to try something different.  While Troy was growing up he never missed an event, he went to every school function and every baseball game for example.  There were times that Troy would have a baseball game several hours from home during the summer and they would get home at early hours in the morning and he would get up at 5:30 am the next day and go to work.  He really enjoyed going to the lake, mainly Lake Eufaula.  For years, he and the family enjoyed to camp until they decided to purchase a lake house.  He and Sharon had several lake houses over the years.  After selling their last lake house, the purchased a travel trailer as JB said that they were going to travel to different places.  Troy told him that he would end up back at Lake Eufaula and sure enough he and Sharon put the travel trailer on a lot at Lake Eufaula.  While at the lake he enjoyed fishing, boating, meeting new people while camping.  One passion he had while at the lake was teaching people how to water ski.  He would not give up until they learned how and there are no telling how many people he taught how to water ski except for his daughter-in-law Lori, Troy said she just never got the hang of it.  The grandkids named JB – "Pa".  Over the last several years, JB really enjoyed watching his grandkids grow up and attending their events:  Tylor playing baseball, basketball and football and Kelsi playing basketball and the piano.

JB had a really good sense of humor and loved to joke with the grandkids.  During these last couple of months, nurses from the hospitals and rehab centers that JB has been in commented on how strong of a person JB was and how he continued to fight this battle and doing so with a sense of humor.

JB will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.B. McCarthey Sr. and Betty McCarthey.

JB is survived by his wife, Sharon McCarthey of Tuttle, OK;

His son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Lori McCarthey of Tuttle, OK;

And grandchildren:  Tylor McCarthey and Kelsi McCarthey of Tuttle, OK.
