Mustang- James (J.V.) Gregory, 82, died after a short battle with cancer, on December 14, 2023, at home with his family at his side. He was born, January 1, 1941, in Pocasset, the son of James and Helen (Hammons) Gregory.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 19th, 2023, at Rosehill Cemetery in Chickasha Oklahoma, under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Family and friends are welcome. Family Visitation will be Monday, December 18, 2023, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sevier Funeral Home
James graduated from high school in Pocasset, class of 1959. J.V. had different jobs in Oklahoma and Illinois, until he met and married Doloras Ramsey in 1963, from Chickasha. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past March. J.V. And Doloras eventually owned their own motor rebuilding company for over 20 years. Among coaching multiple little league teams involving his family, he also would referee basketball and softball in his free time. He was a loyal member of Kiwanis International for over 36 years and held the position of Lieutenant Governor twice during that time.
J.V. is predeceased by his parents. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Doloras, are his daughters, Sheri Porter and her husband, Tom, of Norman; Nancy Whitmill and her husband Matthew, of Mustang; and his son James Gregory III and his wife, Julie, of Mustang, six grandchildren, Joshua Gregory, Emily Gregory, Brandon Porter, Alexandra Porter and her spouse Percy Kittler, Brittany Vance, Noah Whitmill, and Olivia Whitmill; great-grandchild: Riley Kittler, one sister, Theresa Linsmeier and her husband Randy of Duncan; and two brothers Jerry Gregory, of Pocasset, and Johnny Gregory, of Chickasha; many nieces and nephews. We also want to include a couple of friends of his son, James, Larry Robbins of Mustang, and Mark Monroe, of Georgia, who became part of his immediate family, when they were teenagers and starting out on their own, into adulthood.
