James Alvie Burney, of Tuttle, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at his home in Tuttle at the age of 89. He was born January 30, 1931 in Durant, Oklahoma to George and Essie Burney.
James lived in Tuttle all his adult life. He started dairy farming in 1967 and he had worked for Purina as a District Manager for 20 years. He had recently worked for Lonnie Paxton at Farm Bureau in Tuttle till the age of 89.
He married Wanema Cherry in 1950 and had served in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves.
James taught Sunday School and was the Sunday School Superintendent at the Tuttle United Methodist Church. In 2005, he was awarded Tuttle Citizen of the Year and he had served on the Tuttle Fair Board from 1962 to 1987.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Tricia LeeAnn Burney, of Tuttle, and a granddaughter, Kylie LeeAnn Hoover, of Tuttle.
James is survived by his wife, Wanema Burney, of Tuttle, OK;
Daughters: Tyanne Garcia of Tulsa, OK; and Tawana Riley and Mike, of Acadia, OK;
Grandchildren: Stevi Hoover and Nick, of Tuttle, OK; Kodi Roberts of Yukon, OK; and Savanna Stanley and John, of Houston, TX;
and 9 great grandchildren.
Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Tuttle, OK under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Tuttle, OK.
