Jackie "Brock" Steelman

January 13, 1949-February 19, 2026

Jackie "Brock" Steelman passed away peacefully February 19, 2026, in Oklahoma City at the age of 77. He was born on January 13, 1949, in Chickasha to Jack and Lavon (McClain) Steelman.

A celebration of Brock’s life will be held Monday, March 2, at 1:00 p.m. at New Life Christian Church in Chickasha, with interment at Pocasset Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Brock was raised on the family dairy farm in Pocasset, where long days of hard work shaped his character and his lifelong love for animals. He attended Pocasset School until its consolidation with Amber in 1965 and graduated from Amber-Pocasset High School in 1967. A pitcher for the Am-Po baseball team, he never tired of sharing his favorite claim to fame — striking out Johnny Bench in a game against rival Binger.

He proudly served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1971, stationed in Bamberg, Germany, during the Vietnam War era. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Linda Carol Todd, on August 20, 1971, and became a proud father to Tod and Brad Stephens.

The family made their home on the Steelman dairy farm, where Brock resumed the demanding life of a dairyman. His days began well before dawn, shaped by strict twice-daily milking schedules and long, often grueling hours that required grit and dedication. He also attended the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha through the GI Bill.

After moving to Amber, Brock and Linda welcomed their daughter, Jana, in 1977. Brock and Jana later raised show cattle together, creating memories that became a special bond between father and daughter.

When he could steal a few hours away from the barn, Brock headed outdoors, shotgun in hand hunting quail, pheasant and deer, casting a line in the nearest fishing hole and patiently working with his bird dogs. He was also an avid tennis player, until in later years, he found his way to the golf course, appreciating both the challenge of the game and the chance to tell a few tall tales.

After retiring from farm life, Brock and Linda traveled when they could, including a memorable trip to Abu Dhabi to visit Tod and his family. As Papaw Brock, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, whether teaching them to fish or cheering them on at the golf course. He was a member of New Life Christian Church in Chickasha.

Outside of his family, Brock’s greatest joy was his dogs. From skilled bird dogs to devoted lap dogs, he had a natural way with animals and many often joked he was a true “dog whisperer.”

In 2023, Brock and Linda moved to a retirement community in Mustang. His ornery spirit, gift for storytelling and deep love for his family remained steadfast to the very end.

Brock was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lavon Steelman, and his son, Brad Stephens.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Steelman of Mustang, and their much-loved dogs, Bella, Dayzee and Minnie; his son, Tod Stephens and wife Mina of Houston, Texas; his daughter, Jana Steelman and husband Steve Thompson of Yukon; his grandchildren, Leena Stephens and Dezi Stephens of Houston, Texas; Summer Lancelot and husband Adam of Wichita, Kansas; and Will Thompson of Yukon; his great-grandsons, Porter and Benjamin Lancelot of Wichita, Kansas; his sister, Diane Abernathy and husband Bob of Norman; lifelong friends Mike and Sheryl Fuller of Piedmont; and many beloved extended family members and dear friends.
