Harvey Lee Ross

Harvey Lee Ross was born September 25, 1934 in Carpenter, Ok to C.R. (Chat) & Vera Ross. He passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at his home in Tuttle, OK at the age of 81.

He graduated from Highway High School in 1952 where he excelled in basketball and baseball. After graduating from Highway, he attended Sayre Junior College, Sayre, Oklahoma. He then went on to attend Southwestern State University and graduated in 1955 with a B. S. degree in Math and History. While attending Southwestern State he lettered in basketball. He received his Master's degree in School Administration from Western State College in Gunnison, CO in 1960. He completed all of the course work for his Ph.D. in Secondary School Administration at the University of Oklahoma, except for his dissertation.

Harvey started his teaching career as basketball and baseball coach and history teacher at Amber in 1955 & taught there until 1957. From there he moved to Sterling where he was high school principal & basketball coach from 1957 until 1961. He returned to Amber in 1961 to serve as Superintendent from 1961-1965. While serving as Superintendent at Amber, the school was consolidated with Pocasset and became known as Amber Pocasset School District. In 1965 he was hired by the State Department of Education, where he was employed for 33 years, serving in many capacities. One of his greatest honors while with the State Department was writing a grant for Migrant Education where he served as Director for 5 years. The last 18 years he was Regional Accreditation officer serving Grady, Caddo, & Cleveland counties. Harvey was inducted into the Grady County Education Hall of Fame in June 1998. The Grady County Athletic Association dedicated the 1997-1998 Grady County Basketball Tournament in his honor.

Harvey enjoyed spending time raising bird dogs and training them for hunting. A good quail season was one of his biggest joys in life.

Harvey was preceded in death by his momma & daddy, Charles (Chat) & Vera Ross, 2 sisters, Delores Ross & Oleta Fern Denton and many aunts & uncles of whom he was very fond.

He is survived by his wife, Karolyn Ross of the home, and his only surviving sibling, brother Gene Ross of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by his two daughters, Kathy Roberts & husband Larry, Donna Badger & husband Tony, of Tuttle, step-son, Travis Ray and stepdaughter, Toni Ray. He is also survived by his grandchildren Amanda Bagby & Brian, Elizabeth Pace & Justin, Andrea Miller & Trent, Tommy Roberts, Brittany Haile, Kortney Ray, Allison Day & Garrett Ray & 8 great-grandchildren.
