The funeral service for Harvey Davidson will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at First Baptist Church Pocasset. Interment will be at Pocasset Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
Harvey Lewis Davidson was born October 30, 1930, in Upland, California, to Harold and Fern Smith Davidson. After spending the week prior with close family, Harvey passed away peacefully Saturday morning, April 23, 2022.
In 1941 at the age of 10, Harvey and his parents moved to Oklahoma, 5 miles southwest of Chickasha, where his family farmed watermelon and various other produce to provide family income. After graduating from Pioneer School, he would receive higher education at the following academic institutions: Cameron College, Oklahoma College for Women (USAO), Central State (UCO), and Southwestern. In 1954, Harvey acquired a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Central State (UCO). Years later he would acquire his Master's
Degree in Education from Southwestern.
On June 12, 1955, Harvey and Joetta Garrett married in Gracemont, OK. They lived in Chickasha from 1955 to 1974, until building a home in Pocasset in 1974.
After marriage, Harvey and Joetta both began teaching at what would become Amber-Pocasset Schools. Harvey taught Oklahoma History and Business Math. He also coached girls' basketball for elementary, middle, and high school throughout that time.
During the school year, Harvey was a field officer and dispatcher for the Chickasha Police Department for 15 years, working weekends and summers. He was an active member of the Pocasset Lion's Club, holding the position of Treasurer for many years.
After teaching school for 31 years, Harvey retired in 1986. Upon retirement, he would work at the Pocasset Grain Elevator part-time. As a teacher, police officer, and Lion's club member, Harvey was a true staple of the community.
Harvey enjoyed spending time with his wife and grandchildren during his retirement years, attending baseball and soccer tournaments across the state, and taking small family road trips. He enjoyed reading Oklahoma History, coin collecting and playing dominos and Rook with his family.
Harvey is preceded in death by parents Harold and Fern Smith Davidson; wife Joetta Davidson; daughter Sharon Davidson; son-in-law Jimmy Trotter.
Harvey is survived by: son Douglas and Saundra Davidson of Bartlesville; daughter Karen Trotter of Chickasha; grandson Michael and Christina Winkler of Tulsa; grandson Christopher Davidson of Norman; grandson Brandon Winkler and Hannah Harper of Chickasha; granddaughter Laura Davidson of Norman; and four great-grandchildren.
Harvey is also loved and survived by many past students, friends, and family.
