George Conder Hoebing

George C. Hoebing was born June 11, 1944 to Cyril and Ruth Hoebing of Chickasha, Okla.  He died Oct. 1, 2018.  He is preceded in death by his mother Ruth Trotter-Hoebing, his father Cyril Jacob Hoebing and his brother Anthony Hoebing.

He attended Chickasha High School and graduated in 1962.  He joined the US Navy in June of 1963 and served until June of 1967, during which time he was deployed to Vietnam as a Medical Corpsman attached to the US Marine Corps from 1964 to 1966.  He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for Heroic Achievement on March 22, 1966 and also was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry in March 1966.  He was honorably discharged from the Navy, June 1967.

He went on to attend the College of Liberal Arts (currently the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma).  He graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Biology. While attending college he met and married his wife Carol Dobry of Chickasha and had 2 children, Shawna and Paul.  While attending college he worked in the Radiology Department at Grady Memorial Hospital.  He then attended college at the University of Health Sciences in Oklahoma City and received his degree as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in 1973 and he continued to work at Grady Memorial then as a Nuclear Medicine Tech.  In 1976, he was hired to work at O.U. Childrens Hospital in Oklahoma City as head of the Nuclear Medicine Dept., and worked there until his retirement in June of 2009.  He and his family lived in Chickasha until August 1986 when they moved to Oklahoma City in the Yukon/Mustang area.

During his working career he joined the Air Force Reserve in the 72 Air Evacuation Squadron in Dover, Delaware and McGuire Air Force Base New Jersey, from July 1978 to December 1986.  From there, he joined the newly formed unit of the 137th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron based at Will Rogers Airport. He served with this unit attaining the rank of Master Sargent until his military retirement in June of 2004.  When he retired, at this time, he had served for over 37 years and attained over 1900 flight hours serving our country.  It was while serving in this final unit that he was deployed during the occupation of Kuwait and the resulting Operation Desert Storm.  With the deployment he became a two war veteran of which he was very proud.

George is survived by his wife Carol, His daughter Shawna and her husband Matt and their daughter Sage Didlake of Seaside, Oregon; and his son Paul and his wife Jodi and their son David of Olympia Washington; his nephews James, Robert, Jason, David Hoebing and niece Sarah Davis.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations be made to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Building Fund.
