Chickasha

Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2022, at First Baptist Church Chickasha. Interment will be at Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Erma Dee Brown was born to Charles Shedrick Brown and his wife Edna Mae Brown on March 23, 1924, in Grady County, Oklahoma.  Erma had six sisters and two brothers. The Browns were a family who loved music with some family members regularly performing on local radio. Erma played piano, and the accordion, and as a young woman, she occasionally played the guitar. Erma attended a country school in Washington Township, Oklahoma in the 1930s.

After working as a riveter at Douglas Aircraft Company during WWII, Erma worked as a cashier at the Chickasha Drug Store. It was there that she met a handsome young farmer who had recently returned from the war after serving in the Pacific with the US Navy. Walter Bert Harrison became her beloved husband on October 20, 1946. While farming north of Chickasha, Bert and Erma attended the Calvary Baptist Church. It was during this time that Bert was called to the ministry. In 1950, Bert and Erma moved to Springfield, Missouri and Bert enrolled at the Baptist Bible College preparing for his life as a pastor. After college Bert and Erma embarked on a life of ministry together. They served in churches in Missouri, Bremerton, Washington, Ponca City, Oklahoma, Ada, Chickasha, and Oklahoma City. During their time in the ministry, Erma taught Sunday School, Women's Bible studies, and played the piano while raising a family of four children.

In April 1990, Bert and Erma retired from the full-time ministry and built their retirement home on the family farm southwest of Chickasha. Even after retirement, Bert and Erma continued to actively serve in church and Sunday school at Calvary Baptist Church, Bible Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church, all of Chickasha.

In her decades of ministry, Erma touched many lives. Reflect with us as we remember Erma and the blessings she shared with so many people. Rejoice with us as we can only imagine the joy she felt when she met our Lord and Savior face to face. Look forward with us, to the time we again see Erma in heaven.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Shedrick Brown and Edna Mae Brown; husband, Walter Bert Harrison; sisters, Rebecca Marie Morrison, Minnie Opal Halverson, Lela Lorilla Maples, Fern Pauline Brown, Anna Louise Gabehart, Edna Nadine Brown; brothers, Archie Edward Brown and Charles Quintin Brown.

Erma is survived by her children, Michael Bert Harrison and wife, Sharon, Deborah Gwen Webb and husband, Rick, Rebecca Ann Gameros and husband, Lee, Henry Bruce Harrison, and wife, Tammy; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren with another on the way; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
