Dorothy Harriett Crooks Fletcher of Newcastle, Oklahoma passed from this life on December 21st, 2015. She went to be with her husband James Fletcher and stepdaughter Karen Fletcher, her parents Walter and Dora Crooks, her brothers Homer, Bill, Walter, Raymond Crooks and sisters Thelma Crooks and Viola Rosebeary. She is survived by daughters Kathy and husband Thom of Oklahoma City, Linda and Steve Shaw of Newcastle Oklahoma, Becky and Roger Turner of Graham, Washington, Marlena and George Cook of Oklahoma City, son Jim and wife Cindy of Mead, Oklahoma, step-daughter Margie of Yukon Oklahoma and stepson Gaylon and wife Gail of Tucumcari, New Mexico.
Dorothy was born March 5, 1921 in Oklahoma City and moved with her family in 1927 to Guthrie. She attended the Lutheran school and graduated from Guthrie High School in 1938. She was baptized at the Lutheran church in 1932 and confirmed in 1935. She took advantage of the WPA program and attended one semester at Oklahoma A &M. At the start of WWII she attended the Tonkawa radio school and then worked on radio and radar at Kelly field in San Antonio and Hickam field in Oahu, Hawaii. She was one of the first 3 women to work on radar. In 1949 she returned to Guthrie and met James Fletcher at Tinker AFB. They were married May 16, 1952 in Guthrie. Their marriage was enriched by 5 children and many years of travel around the world.
She leaves a legacy to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren her many nieces and nephews and friends young and old.
