Dorothy Kathleen Cox was born April 29, 1932 in Hoffman, Oklahoma. She was the fourth of six children of Burl William and Dorothy Patricia (Lange) Harriman. She died Friday, September 25, 2015 in Chickasha, OK at the age of 83. The family moved to Chickasha in December of 1945. Her mother took a position at the Chickasha Post Office, her father was an Ordained Baptist Minister and ran a Texaco Filling Station at 4th and Minnesota. They wanted their children to go to college and all of them did graduate from college, five becoming teachers and one an engineer. Dorothy graduated from Chickasha High School in 1950. She received a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1954 from Oklahoma College for Women, after which she taught at Chickasha Junior High School. She continued her education and received a B.A degree in Elementary Education at Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts and a Master's degree from Oklahoma University. She taught Home Economics at Tuttle and Amber and taught 18 years at Grand Avenue Elementary in Chickasha. Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church, Chickasha, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Joy Choir, DEA, Kappa Kappa lota and the Oklahoma Retired Educators. She loved her family and her church. Her greatest joy was to sing about her Lord. She and Billy Calvin Cox were married September 18, 1954 in the First Baptist Church, Chickasha. They were blessed with two sons and one daughter, Mark and Stephen of Chickasha, and Karen Grammer of Chickasha. Bill preceded her in death in April of 2005. Other family members preceding her in death were: her parents, sister Margaret Jane Ratliff of Tulsa, sister Frances June Gideon of Los Lunas, NM, brother Don Harriman of Duncan, and a daughter-in-law Lisa Cox of Chickasha. Survivors include: Sons: Stephen of Chickasha, and Mark of Ninnekah, and daughter Karen Grammer and husband Larry of Chickasha. Sister Barbara Noakes and her husband, Bob of Loomis, California, brother, David Harriman and his wife Sandra of Oklahoma City, OK, Grandchildren: Ford Filson and Claris and husband Ryan Bahm.
