David Sims

Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2022, at Pleasant Hill/ Woods Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

David Allan Sims, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, in Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 37. He was born June 13, 1984, in Champagne, Illinois, to parents, James and Patricia (Sims) Gwin.

David was born and lived in Illinois until he was 8 when his family moved to Oklahoma and settled in Minco, where he stayed until he finished school. After finishing school David moved around a lot working various jobs. His wife, Payton Sims, and their 4 children traveled with him, Payton started climbing turbines with him as well in Minco, Oklahoma, and South Dakota. David and Payton spent time in Las Vegas for their honeymoon. They had a lot of adventures together as a family. David was always teaching Payton and their children how to do things, like fixing things around the house, and building things, and was always very adamant on life lessons.  He was an ironworker and then became a wind turbine technician, which took him all over from Oklahoma to Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota. He loved to work and use his hands.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Jeremiah Gwin and Luke Gwin.

David is survived by his wife, Payton Rose Sims; children, Addalynn, Zayden, Richard, and David Sims; parents, Patricia and James Gwin; sister, Sarah Rueda and husband Hector; nieces, Kendall and Anastasia; nephews, Nathan, Imperial, Cortez, and Achilles; as well as many other loving family members.
