He grew up at Laverty, being one of eight siblings.  His days were filled with being in the middle of a trio of brothers, that had their share of fun, as well as fishing and working in the watermelon patch and being active in Laverty Baptist Church.  He graduated from Pioneer High School in 1947.  From 1950 to 1954, he served his country in the U.S. Navy.  He first was on a seagoing tug in Alaska followed by being a gunner's mate on the USS O'Bannon.

In 1955, he went to work at Pet Milk as a temporary employee that lasted 36 years.  It was there he met the love of his life, Tula Newberry.  There were married on June 30, 1956 and they made their home in the Friend-Tabler area.  There he and Tula raised their two daughters, Patty and Joyce.

He has been active at Sharon Baptist Church including teaching the men's Sunday school class and was a big supporter of the Falls Creek ministry.  He was part of the Friend Fire Department, where he was recognized as the oldest active volunteer firefighter in Oklahoma in 2014, Grady Baptist Association and the Board of Directors for Life Choices Chickasha.
