Cleta Faye Ashford

Services will be held at Bible Baptist Church in Chickasha, OK on Monday, February 24th, 2025 at 10 a.m. under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Officiating the service is Bro. Lewis Cox and Bro. Kim Hayes.

Interment Rose Hill Cemetery Chickasha, OK.

Cleta Faye (Ogle) Ashford was born on December 3rd, 1929 to Glen and Georgia (Griswold) Ogle. She passed away peacefully in her home February 11th, 2025 at the age of 95 years old. She was the 3rd of 4 sisters, she grew up on their farm in Tabler, Oklahoma area.

She milked cows, fed chickens and gathered eggs.   At an early age, she worked the field with horses and especially enjoyed running the go devil to cut the weeds and fill in the farrows.

Cleta Faye attended Middleberg school to the 10th grade.  Then she met the love of her life Melton "Gub" Ashford, while he was working for her dad cutting broomcorn. On November 2, 1946 in Chickasha, they were married by her Aunt Maude in the back of their dry cleaners and store.

For two years they worked for her mom and dad on the farm and dairying.  She fondly spoke of her job at S.H. Kress, waiting on customers, and meeting new people.  After that, they moved to Galveston Texas, Gub worked the shipyard, then off to Plainview Texas pulling cotton.  Later, returning to Oklahoma, starting a dairy farm and family.

Their first son Melton Dean Jr. born December 5th passed December 10th, 1948. Melvin Dale in 1950 and Malcolm Devon 1954 joined their family. Cleta Faye spent her life raising her boys, working the farm and raising baby calves. Gub and Cleta Faye always enjoyed traveling and buying cattle for the Livestock Auction.

She was very active with the Tabler Gospel Tabernacle for years. She enjoyed the 3rd Saturday night singing, preparing food, and serving the community.

Cleta Faye loved with an unconditional love for everyone, her strong faith in God was evident in all she did.

Cleta Faye was preceded in death by her parents Glen and Georgia Ogle of Tabler, OK, sisters Laverne Goodnight of Blanchard, OK Juanita Jackson of Lubbock, TX, husband of 69 years Melton (Gub) Ashford, and infant son Melton Dean Ashford Jr.

Cleta Faye is survived by sons Melvin (Dale) Ashford and wife Glenda of Blanchard, Malcolm (Devon) Ashford of Blanchard, her sister Wilma Joyce Pittman and husband Billy of Rush Springs, grandchildren Cindy Hefner and husband Billy of Blanchard, Caresa McMinn and husband Fred of Blanchard, Malcolm Ashford Jr and wife Melissa of Blanchard, OK, Devonna Erkenbrack of Blanchard, OK, and Chancey Witt and husband Chris of Ninnekah, OK. Seven great-grandchildren, twelve great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cleta Faye lived a full life and was a blessing to everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
