Claude Ray Rex, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the age of 78 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born March 10, 1942 in Oklahoma City to Fred and Louise (Passmore) Rex.
Claude grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1960 where he participated in football, track and baseball. After high school he played semi professional football for the Oklahoma City Plainsman
He married Brenda Ewing in Oklahoma City on August 15, 1960 and they celebrated their 60 th anniversary this year.
He had worked for Scott Chevrolet, Downtown Chevrolet and Hudiburg Chevrolet in the 1960's and 1970's. In 1968 he began his career as a firefighter with the OKC Fire Department until 1996 when he retired as a Major. He received his Associates Degree from OSU-OKC in Fire Protection and he was also an expert carpenter.
He belonged to the OK State Firefighters Association, OK State Retired Firefighters Association and to the Freemasons and also the International Association of Firefighters #1524 in Oklahoma City, OK.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Louise Passmore Rex; daughter, Kellie Jean (Rex) Sawyer; Brothers, Freddie Gene, Alfred and Jerry; and sisters, Billie, Wanda and Patsy.
Claude is survived by his wife, Brenda Ewing Rex of Oklahoma City, OK;
Children: Linda Rex Knight and husband, Greg, of Rockwall, TX; Leslie Rex Stockel and husband, Chip, of Edmond, OK; Kathy Rex Pendergraft and husband, Jim, of Moore, OK; and Richard Rex and wife, Marcy, of Newcastle, OK; and son-in-law, Larry Sawyer of Tuttle, OK;
15 grandchildren: Lauren Williamson Jerome and spouse, Clint; Randie Bass and spouse Casey; Jack Williamson, Riley Thompson and spouse Kyle; Courtney Brown and spouse Charles; Syler Rex, Richard Alex Rex, Jeff Stockel, Laney Rex, Cade Stiger, Jeremy Stockel, Jake Pendergraft, Carter Rex, Brittany Pendergraft and Carmen Sawyers; and two great grandchildren Alexander and Asher Schweitzer.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 27, 2020 at Snow Hill Baptist Church, Tuttle, Oklahoma. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tuttle, OK under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Tuttle, OK.
Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Sevier Funeral Home.
