Carl L. Dunn

June 16, 1923 — February 15, 2018

Carl L. Dunn, belonged to America's finest generation.

He was 94 years, three months and one day when he passed away in Chickasha, OK on February 15, 2018. He was born June 16, 1923, in Oklahoma City, to Howard and Elon (Goodin) Dunn. He spent the first five years of his life in Oklahoma City. The Dunn family moved, by covered wagon, to a farm southeast of Chickasha where he grew up. He attended Union Hill and Chickasha Schools. Carl was the oldest member of Sharon Baptist Church.

On June 20, 1943, Carl married his sweetheart Florence Alice Humphrey. They started a dairy and their family in the spring of 1944. Their first born, Martha Deann, died at birth that same year. In 1945, during WWII, Carl was drafted into the army. He was a paratrooper for the 11th Airborne Division. Carl was enroute to Japan when Japan surrendered. He was stationed there till 1946 when he was honorably discharged from the services. He then returned home to his wife and son, Carl Jr. (Sonny). Once back in Chickasha he re-started the dairy farm. Soon thereafter Carl and Florence had son Marshall (Bub) and daughter Rita Kay.

Carl loved farming, cattle and horses. He farmed the land he grew up on, southeast of Chickasha. Later, his son Marshall (Bub) joined him and together they farmed the land until he retired in his 80's. Besides farming, Carl was a jack of all trades and a master of many. He loved working with his hands, which included woodworking and making things for his family, children and grandchildren. He was a collector of junk and old things. One of his favorites was the old "Poppin' Johnnies". He liked the challenge of bringing them back to life.  Carl always saw potential in things that other people threw away, therefore he never threw anything away.

Carl was fair and a man of integrity. He was always willing to help his children and family, be it time or money. Carl was well loved, most would say their favorite, and also highly respected among his family, friends and the community.

Carl's grandchildren wanted to be his pallbearers as their last loving gesture and honor for their Papa.
