Brenda Fae Rex, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the age of 77 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born July 1, 1943 in Oklahoma City to Ruth (Hager) and Neill Ewing.
Brenda grew up in Oklahoma City, attending Carey Elementary School, Jackson Junior High and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1961. She was a majorette and on the synchronized swimming team. She also attended vo-tech classes where she learned the trade of upholstery which led to her first career as an aircraft upholsterer for AeroCommander in Oklahoma City.
Brenda married her high school sweetheart, Claude Rex in Oklahoma City on August 15, 1960 and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2020.
Brenda was a homemaker and mother to five children. She led brownie scout troops and homeroom activities as well as sewed numerous choir, band, and drama costumes for her own children, plus other kids in the neighborhood. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed spending time with her two best friends, Billie and Teri. She worked for Dillard's Department Store as a Bridal Consultant in the Mid-80s, and started a wedding catering and cake decorating business. In the 90's she became a Home Interior Design Consultant and started her second small business with a retail drapery and home finishing store in South Oklahoma City. She was also a talented artist, working in oils on canvas. Brenda was active in the Oklahoma City Fire Department and the statewide Oklahoma Firefighter's Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as a past president and won Woman of the year in 1993. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi women's sorority.
Brenda is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Rex who passed from this earth just two months ago, her daughter, Kellie Jean (Rex) Sawyers; her sister, Barbara Ann Ewing Hall; her parents, Ruth (Hager) Ewing, Neil Ewing, and her beloved stepfather, Herbert Ewing.
Brenda is survived by her children; Linda Rex Knight and husband, Greg, of Rockwall, TX; Leslie Rex Stockel and husband, Chip, of Edmond, OK; Kathy Rex Pendergraft and husband, Jim, of Moore, OK; and Richard Rex and wife, Marcy, of Newcastle, OK; and son-in-law, Larry Sawyers of Tuttle, OK.
She was blessed with 15 grandchildren: Lauren Williamson Jerome and her husband, Clint Jerome of Denton, Texas; Randie Bass and her husband Casey of Tuttle, OK; Jack Williamson of Denton, TX; Riley Thompson and her husband Kyle, of Moore, OK; Courtney Brown and her husband Charles, of Fort Irwin, CA; Syler Rex and Richard Alex Rex, both of Mustang, OK; Jeff Stockel and Jeremy Stockel, both of Edmond, OK; Jake Pendergraft of Oklahoma City; OK, Laney Rex, Cade Stiger, and Carter Rex, all of Newcastle, OK; Brittany Pendergraft of Oklahoma City; Carmen and Robbie Sawyers, of Oklahoma City; and two great grandchildren Alexander and Asher Schweitzer, of Yukon.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Newcastle, Oklahoma. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tuttle, OK under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Tuttle, OK. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 4th, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sevier Funeral Home, 105 W Main St, Tuttle, OK 73089.
